KARMA’S REINCARNATION
WINNER OF THE 2009 BEST INDIAN CUISINE FROM LEISURE OPTIONS
Karma, voted
AGAIN, "THE BEST INDIAN CUISINE IN JOBURG"
FOR
EIGHT YEARS RUNNNG,
When it comes to Indian restaurants in Gauteng, Karma stands out as the best. Karma was first launched in 2000 with contemporary Indian Cuisine in mind. Taking a traditional cuisine and giving it a contemporary twist - hence our promise - "fab food reincarnated". The classic Indian Cuisine has been adapted to the Western palate with a fusion of flavours, sensuality of texture, vivid colours, pungent aromas and tingling tastes that demand attention, even concentration. |

Karma offers an extensive choice of its Karma’s trademark North Indian dishes, with curries that are more fragrant than they are fiery and complementary dishes that tease the palate. The menu includes delicious haloumi samoosas, the ever-popular vindaloo for those who like a kick, paneer tikka masala (an exciting cottage cheese concoction) and a range of chicken and lamb tandoori dishes, always better with steaming rice and naan bread. House specialities include Karma Korma, delicious and succulent pieces of chicken, lamb, prawn or vegetable, cooked in a velvety cashew nut and cream sauce.
Voted the best Indian restaurant for 7 years (five consecutive years in the Leisusre Options Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Awards & 2 years in the Fleur de Cap) and an award winning staff complement, including a chef nominated as one of the top five chefs in the Top Billing lifestyle Momentum Awards, Karma is an experience that one must not miss. Building on the success of it original Greenside location, Karma has expanded to Fourways.
When you visit Karma, you will be immediately welcomed with the décor of simplicity yet elegance with swirls of rich browns and deep reds. Buddha statues grace the presence as well as the soft sounds of Buddha bar playing in the background which creates a calming ambiance. The aroma is a combination of the Indian spices and insenses which seduces and teases your senses with anticipation of the meal.
The layouts of the restaurant lend themselves to intimate romantic dinners as well as hosting functions. Every detail is catered to from theme functions to the traditional fresh rose petals garnishing the floors and tables. It is truly a venue that is elegant and memorable.
Not settling on the success of the two restaurants, the owners of Karma are constantly expanding into new ventures to compliment and build on the Karma brand. Karma offers a range of catering options for small intimate functions to large wedding parties and corporate functions hosted at either of the restaurants or in the venue of your choice. The experienced staff at Karma is well trained to manage every detail.
Recently, Karma launched its Karma Kooking Klasses offering the Indian cooking experience at the Karma restaurants as well partnered with Angela’s Day Kitchen. Karma now offers a wide range of cooking classes to teach how to cook its signature dishes. The classes range from 4 to 6 hours and provides the students with hands on experience from understanding the different Indian spices to the different cooking methods in order to achieve ‘that’ perfect Indian dish.
According to Zara Kara, Head Chef and co-owner of Karma, many people do not understand and appreciate the intricacies of Indian spices and cooking techniches. Zara adds “…that creating our cooking classes and introducing people to what Indian spices are all about enhances the entire cooking experience.” Karma has also launched its range of a stater kit cooking spices which arms a novice Indian cook with all of the spices that one would require as well as the condiments such as atchaars, pickles and sauces.
Recognizing the opportunity to enter the corporate arena, Marketing Manager Shyrose Verjee has developed various team building programs which offer cooking classes to coprtatporations whereby classical Indian cooking can be used for team building. “This is a new and bold spin-off of our business and we believe that this will be a great growth for our business” says Shyrose. For Kooking Klasses or Gift Certificates, contact Zara Kara or Shyrose Verjee.
But this is not the end of Karma’s development. Karma is in the process of launching its exciting lite lunch menu which will include tantalizing dishes such as naan wraps, grills, exotic grills and bunny chow. Visit the Karma website for further details.
